James River Figure Skating Club

Ice Show

The James River Figure Skating Club Ice Show is an annual event designed to showcase the skills our skaters
have learned throughout the year while providing quality entertainment for the community and raising much-
needed funds for JRFSC. This event compares to a dancer’s recital, but on a much grander scale. This is like
a Super Bowl for our skaters!

Dates for Shows: March 26 – March 28, 2021
7:00 PM March 26, 2:00 & 7:00 PM March 27, & 2:00 PM March 28

Learn to Skate Lessons end February 16. The following week, skaters will begin practice for Ice Show. Coach
Mark will group the skaters based on their skills. All JRFSC skaters are part of the Ice Show cast, even the
youngest and most inexperienced skaters. There are no additional fees to participate. Each group will have at
least one routine to learn and practice. The practice times more than likely will be similar to the schedule the
skater was on for lessons. Rehearsal schedules will be sent out once they are set.

Skaters (and parents) do need to realize it is VERY important that they attend Show practice. Each routine will
be taught in two sessions. If the skater is absent from both of the sessions they will NOT be allowed to skate
that routine in the show. During the week of the Show, skaters will practice every day, with Dress Rehearsal
being on Thursday.

Skaters will have costumes for each of the routines and will take them home after the show. Individual photos
will be taken in costume on February 22. You will be able to purchase these photos if you choose. We will not
be doing full group pictures this year. The individual photos and information about each skater will be put
together in a program along with details about the show and the club. There are also opportunities to advertise
and send special messages to your skater (called a ‘Happy Gram’) in the program book. Please let Lynn
Lambrecht (320-7217), Ice Show Program Book Coordinator, know if your business would like an ad in the
book. Happy Grams can be purchased on picture night.

It takes many hands to put together a production of this magnitude, so all families are expected to participate.
This year is even more challenging as we prepare to protect our skaters, their families, and our audience from
COVID-19. As has been said by many leaders during this pandemic, “We are building this plane as we are
flying it.”

We appreciate your patience and grace during the planning stages and look forward to each family’s help.
There really is something for everyone as there is a great variety of tasks and jobs to put together the show.
It’s also a great way to have fun and get to know other people in the club. Please plan to sign up for a way to
serve on Picture Night, if you haven’t already committed to Show responsibilities by then.

Elizabeth Sherfy, Ice Show Costumer, will begin taking measurements on Sunday, January 17 for costumes
and will be preparing costumes for every skater. We appreciate your flexibility of a bit of time before/after
lessons. If for some reason, a skater is not able to participate in this year’s Ice Show, you must notify
Jeanne Sortland, Ice Show Producer, as soon as possible, absolutely no later than January 31st.
